The eyes are the windows to the soul. Little ribbons to tie the hair out of the way or a discreet trim.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Where's the girlfriend in the title?

Not to dismiss your girlfriend, but she's really not in the image. She's really little more than a distracting background.

Well, shoot.

Let me say this: This shot is far and away better than any shot I ever offered here when I had only 20 posts to my credit.

That being said, It just doesn't grab me.

One thing could be the color cast. Looks far too orange. Another thing is that I can't see the dog's eyes. Yes, yes, yes, I know that that is the point with this type of dog, but still, I would have liked to make a connection with the subject - and connections are usually made with the eyes. Perhaps reach out and push back the hair next time.

And on to the background. Sorry to say, but your girlfriend in the image adds nothing to the subject. She is out of focus, she is not interacting with the dog, there is no compositional reason for her to be included. I would say crop her out and it would be a better shot, but even still, "better" in this case still wouldn't be all that great.

On the plus side - I want to compliment you for not falling into the standard noob cliché of shooting down to the "dog on the ground" from a peoples eye view. Having the camera at the dog's eye level shows that you do have some intuitive grasp of how to take better shots than average joe.

So all in all, it looks like you have a couple of agreeable models that will provide you with some excellent results. It's just that this isn't it.

haha, there are a lot of ways I could go with this... but I'll just keep it to, thats a pretty sweet lookin dog, and I usually only go for the short-hairs. Also I think the subjects are too close. The background (gf) has too much DOF, She is more blurred around the head, and legs are less so.
