I referee 14-16 varsity games every season, not including playoffs. If we have a week off, I try to get out and shoot. I try to get a lot of ref shots because, well, I is one (poor grammar intended). If the rest of my crew gets a game that week, I will go shoot their game and get shots of them. There's very few things as satisfying than being on the sidelines (or field) of a high school football game.

Not the kind of ref picture you want to see. Two players were blocking each other away from the main part of the play. The ref was watching the play and the two players fell into his leg breaking it. The bone popped out of his skin. Our trainer said it was the worst break he's ever seen.

That sucks. How long ago did this happen? I am the umpire on our crew (stands between the linebackers). 3 weeks ago took a helmet to the face and busted my lip in 2 places. Bled for over an hour. It happens.

This was just this past Friday. I would like to think that this ref will also realize that it is an unfortunate accident. He will definitely not be reffing any more this year.

He's the referee (white hat). He is in the middle of the field w/ a lot of action. The referee and umpire gets caught up in a lot of action that goes one way and quickly comes back the other. It happens. He knows that it's an accident.

I feel bad for the umps and refs at the junior and intermidiate levels of football. These guys never catch a break. Either one side or the other is lighting them up for something. But sometimes they deserve it. Learning the rules at this level is really important.

Here the coach for Rebels Black is lighting up this ump. The rule book clearly states that on a punt the defense cannot rush until the kick is off. The result of the play before this photo was a blocked punt and a touchdown. Oh well, win some loose some. But the kids didn't understand why the ump let the other team keep the touchdown. They were pissed!

But most of the time these guys are great and really try hard, to get into my pictures!

LOL! Oh well...
