Best CF and SD cards for 1D MarkIII

Hi All,

I'm proud to say that I've a second hand 1D Mark III.
Now to get the maximum from it, I need to choose a great combo of CF and SD cards.

Which one would you advice me to get?

I've read articles that says that Sandisk Extrem III are great in CF (16go) by example. What about the Sandisk in SD ? Is there Extrem III models in SD?

I've read that the maximum allowed is 32Go for SD, I don't know the maximum for CF, I also read that UDMA is only supported by the 1Ds...

So which brand, and model would you advice me to get?

Go for the Sandisk Extreme IV compact flash card you'll need the speed if you're using the 10fps. If you're only doing single shots the Extreme III will be just as good.

Do you know if I'm right by saying that UDMA is not supported by the 1D Mark III but well by the 1Ds Mark III?

What's the maximum size of CF can I get for the Mark III? I read there:

That's 32Go for CF and SDHC. Is that correct?

That's correct, the 1D3 doesn't support UDMA but the slightly later 1Ds3 does. AFAIK there's no practical limit to CF card size for the 1D3 beyond the FAT32 directory structure, although I find cards larger than about 4 GB just hold too many pictures (even shooting RAW+JPEG) to conveniently manage downloading/indexing. I think the SDHC card architecture has other limitations which account for it having a practical limit of 32 GB in size regardless of the device.

If you look at the results from some of the cameras that do accept UDMA cards then you can see that the latest Ducatti and Extreme IV cards seem to be faster anyway so I wouldn't think that whether a camera can/cannot use UDMA is an issue. I've never used UDMA myself so cannot comment from practical experience.

Technically there should be no limit to the size of the card that your camera can take. The new Extreme Pro is up to 64GB already.
