I use the Lowepro Pro Runner x450. Its the right size for carry on luggage, can fit all my lenses and camera comfortably. It also carries my 15.4 inch laptop (It even comes with a latop sleeve, but I still use my Crumpler). Its handy for difficult terrain because it has retractable back-pack straps and its handy for air travel because it has wheels and the retractable tow handle. Also it has the Lowepro weatherproof jacket that folds out over the bag. The camera section is extra deep so that it can pack most extra large lenses.

All in all I think its a great all rounder.

I use a Domke F-802 to carry the 7D with 70-200 2.8 IS and the 5D2 with the 24-70. Today I have the 7D with the 85 1.8. I put the 580 or 430 II in the middle divider so I have everything I need. It's a great shoulder bag and extremely professional looking, but doesn't scream "Camera Inside!"

Well, the Domke F5XB.

http://www.amazon.com …ics&qid=1271524495&sr=8-1 (external link)

It's not very showy and it's perfect for one larger DSLR and lens. I use it for my 5D2 with 24-70 attached, hood reversed.

thanks for taking time and the recommendation. after some research on that bag, it MAY be a little long for what I want. I want the smallest possible bag for a 7D body and 17-55. Literally, NOTHING else will be going into this bag. I want the bag for sporting events where I can only bring a body and lens. smaller the bag the better. tight spaces, no attention.

5MDH 10.2 x 7.9 x 5.5 "
F5XB 10.5 x 4.5 x 6.5

your recommendation may be the best option, I will need to check one out. It IS long, but narrow. thanks for the tip.

and other ideas? what are other 7D owners using as their smallest bag>
cheers.

The Zing covers are not large enough. I got one and it doesn't have a big enough part for a bigger lens.

The reason why the Domke bag is preferred is that it looks simple and doesn't scream camera bag. I have the 5MDH and it's nice, but I don't use it much. I don't like the clasp and velcro. The Domke bag's velcro is loud, I must admit, but it's very secure. Instead of the clasp, it has a zipper. I like that much better. So, it's what you prefer. I also don't like the strap on the 5MDH as much as the F5XB. I don't know the cost difference, but I use the my 2 Domke bags more than any of the others. They are just easy to use.

Right now I have the Domke F-803

IMAGE: http://photovideo.com.au/images/F803S270.jpg

I have a pair of inserts inside. the smaller one for a lens. the bigger one, used to fit my t1i with 17-55 2.8 hood reversed.

The 7D won't fit. It's too big for the insert. Do you guys think I should I try to find a larger insert or a new bag?

Also, with the 17-55 sold and the 24-105 being my main lens, I have played around with the 3mdh again. the 17-55 hood reversed didn't fit in the 3mdh. the 7D + 24-105 hood reversed, will fit in the 3mdh. I'm not using the velcro, just the buckle. it's tight but it works well.

Which inserts do you have? Personally, I stash my body/lens combos with the lens vertical and the body on top in my Domkes. The F802 will swallow 5D2 with 24-70, 7D with 70-200 IS and a Sigma 15-30 in the 720-230 3-compartment insert that way. If you're using the 720-200 as your small and 720-210 as the larger one, then no, the 7D won't fit completely in that with lens attached. But the bag should work fine with just the one insert holding the body/lens with the lens down.

I'm leaning towards the F-4AF or F-3X. I want the lens down 7D attached to 24-105L. + 12-24 and 50 or 85 and flash.

F3x is a nice bag; I use it for all sorts of combinations of stuff (had 2 hardbacks, 2 trade paperbacks, SX1 and 270EX along with GPS and audio recorder in it today - book fair). But you might want the F4 or F6, with 2 lenses besides the one on the body.

It's not a bad pack at all. I used one for a little while but decided that I generally don't like a backpack to carry gear. And that if I do need a backpack then I need one bigger than most of the photo backpack setups.

Other people love backpacks, so it's up to you to decide what you want to use.
