ok, im not sure what it is but while out and about looking for whales in Juneau came across this guy or gal.... whatever

Nice and it is a seal. An easy way to tell the difference between a seal and sea lion is that the seal is "sealed" meaning no visible ears (only a slit) and the sea lions have ears that protrude. Another way is that sea lions can stand and walk on their front flippers and seals cannot. Most "trained seals" are actually sea lions. To make it more confusing New Zealand Fur Seals are actually sea lions. :)

Sea Lions I've seen in the wild are quite large, loud, and smell ;) They are also brown/tan for the sea lions around here anyway, whereas harbour seals are grey with and without spots etc. *shrug*

Nice capture though, love when they sit on rocks. One guide told us he calls them sea sausages (harbour seals). They wait for the tide to come up and take them off rocks etc. Lazy buggers ;)
