An easy way to tell the difference between a seal and sea lion is that the seal is "sealed" meaning no visible ears (only a slit) and the sea lions have ears that protrude. Another way is that sea lions can stand and walk on their front flippers and seals cannot. Most "trained seals" are actually sea lions. To make it more confusing New Zealand Fur Seals are actually sea lions.
