They were all shot with my 40D and 70-200 2.8L

Thanks for the opinions!

The images and action are pretty nice. I'd like to see tighter crops though. Images like the last one and the second (the two best imo) could have a ton more impact with a nice tight crop. If possible, you can also add impact by shooting from a lower position.

Thanks for the crit. Where does the tight crop vs giving the players room to move in the frame cross?

yep. you can sometimes use loose crops if whatever appears there adds to the drama (crowds for instance) or if you are being very creative, lone player right on a rule of thirds line or something. Otherwise, crop those babies in nice and tight!

Yep... don't amputate main subject limbs.

But it looks like you're also trying to maintain a standard/consistent aspect ratio (I do too... I work in 2:3 for WYSIWYG since almost all of my prints are 4x6).

Here are my suggested recrops...

I try to keep the main subject on 1/3rd, facing into the other 2/3rds of the frame

Thanks for the crop lines clarence. I actually had them about there but I doubted myself. Im trying to freelance for our school paper and figured they would like them wide and then they can crop.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I've gotta agree with the crops as well. My first soccer lesson was to get them as tight as possible. You've got some good action shots too.
