I've picked up a cheap Prakticar Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 at a rummage sale for $5....but now I need PB-to-EOS adapter for my 40D.

Ebay has a few for sell, but I understand this mount can be a bit 'fickle' when it comes to taking bayonet Prakticar's.

Anyone here have any experience with the PB adapters?

Very few old Prakitars are worth the price of an adapter, if you ask me.

I have 7 Praktica B camera's and about 14 lenses including a Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm F1.4, also the pentacon F1.8 and zeiss Tessar F2.8.

I have the Pentacon f1.8 50mm and the Tessar in 42mm format as well, also have the adapter for these, the results are very good, they are both sharp lenses.

I have just bid on one of the PB to EOS adapters because I want to use the 50 F1.4 Zeiss on my 350d.

I have used Praktica cameras since 1972 and have never had any complaints about picture quality from any of their lenses or those made by Sigma.

The Pentacon club magazine which ran for 16 years contains many hundreds of pin sharp photo's taken with Praktica and Sigma lenses.

Thanks, John....

I was given the Prakticar Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 as basically a 'throw-in' while buying a Pentacon 135mm f/2.8 (M42) at a rummage sale.

I realize the version of the Pentacon I have is a "cheapie" -- it's not one of the earlier Pancolar versions. If I had something like a 50 1.4 Zeiss, then I might seriously look into the bayonet (PB) mount to EOS. But I'm not sure it's worth the hassle for the lens I have.

IOW, part of me just wonders if I should just drop the PB thing altogether...and put the $20+ I would use on a mount toward something like a SMC Takumar 50mm 1.4 (since I already have a M42 adapter).

Thoughts?

You could get the 42mm screw version of the Pentacon F1.8 from e-bay, it is still the same lens as the B version and pretty dam sharp at that.

have a look at these pictures taken with this lens and form your own opinion about it.
