I really run out of ideas of what to title these threads...

This was one of those games where the team I was covering would hit the ball and the other team would either: (1) watch it hit the floor or (2) knock it a mile out of bounds.

Not to mention, I wasn't really in the mood to cover any thing that day...

*Gasp*

I know...I'm crazy. Surely none of you ever feel that way, do you? So, these images probably aren't the best, but they what I got from the game. I think I walked away with less than 40 images over all...

Thanks for looking and I appreciate any C & C, although I know these aren't my best.

I feel your pain. Volleyball can be so frustrating. Either the focus is off, or my timing is off, or that great spike shot has the player's arm in front of her face. Last night I was shooting and the football team came in to cheer which was terrific but they sat in the section where I normally shoot from. Oh well, if it were easy it wouldn't be so satisfying when you do get that good shot! Granted, it happens in other sports as well.

You haven't been shooting much if you don't have days like that.

BTW, #1 is a really great capture! I love it.

In fact, the more I look at #1, the more it impresses me. Tweak it a little in PP and you have a very memorable photo for a young lady and her family.

Thank you very much!

What tweaking do you have in mind? To me, I might play with WB a bit (although I did a custom WB before the game and I never have had a problem with images being so yellow). Any other ideas? My PP skills are not that great, although I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks for the insight, Zivnuska!

I love the last image as well. Plus your lighting is great. Did you bring in strobes? Because if not, thats one of the best lit HS gyms I've ever seen.

Thank you, RickyH!

I don't use any strobes at all. That is ambient lighting. It is definitely one of the best lit HS gyms around here, that's for sure! :D

Eric,

It's difficult for me to tell a lot from the posted pic since it is on the small size but here is what I see. The image could use some additional contrast. Perhaps if you have a 'Clarity' slider on your software, you could experiment with that. Next, is there some noise for you to reduce? Don't go crazy (a little will do) but it looks like that will help.

One more idea if you have a friend who is creative and good with photoshop. This (#1) looks like it could make a heck of a poster! Clone out those legs behind the ball.

Take this critique with a grain of salt. As I said, this is based on how a small picture looks on my monitor and YMMV.

Thank you for the ideas Phil! I don't know about the clarity slider, I don't think PS CS has one, but I will try to find what ever is the equivalent. Give me a few days to play with it (or more since my MabBook's ac adapter died). I'm on my wife's computer and she doesn't have Photoshop on it.

When I get my laptop up and working again, I will be more than glad to try your suggestions. PP is my weakest area. I definitely appreciate your C&C! I will post the new effort as soon as I can!

Eric
