Next Friday they are having the Rescue Ink episode on Nat Geo where they rescued Tspin and all the other 150 or so kitties from a hoarders house in Long Island. He will be one of the little kittens!!

I don't know! They were filming when we picked ours out and I signed a release.

Cool! Tape it!

Ouch. It was nice talking to you today by the way. Feel better soon 'k

Tiff, what about bribbing some of your students to help?

It was nice talking to you too! Your voice is as sweet as your personality and you don't have a heavy west coast accent. ;)

And, can't bribe the kids. I'm taking a day off to paint....kind of not good to have kids call in sick to help me. Though, I did have a girl that was wanting to help me this weekend but well, we can't paint this weekend so that kills that.

NEIL I completely understand why you want to keep Harley intact. We used to breed springers. Well, mom and stepdad did. If you know they have killer blood lines it's hard to take those good genes out of the pool.

G'mae folks. No sleeping in this morning. Corey had to work at 8 and had a fire call in the night. So, it's going to be a loooooong day with the boys at home. I think I'm going to brave menard's with them and go buy my cabinet hardware. I pretty much have it picked out so that saves some time. Oh, and the in-laws are coming over later. They've been on vacation for a while.

I have a senior photo shoot tomorrow outside. It's the ipod girl. She wanted to split her session to try and get some fall colors. I'm hoping the frost didn't destroy all the leaves.

And, tomorrow I"m also shooting outdoor shots of SILs kids and we're going to try and work my kids in there too.

¡Feliz cumpleaños Gata!

Good morning! Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. Put a huge smile on my face this morning. It's going to be a great day! I can feel it. I would like nothing more than to have several dogs adopted at our event today, so wish us luck!

Neil, I have no doubt that you will be a responsible pet owner. Everyone has different views on spaying/neutering, and everyone is entitled to those views.
Your views come from a position of responsible ownership and pedigree breeding.

My views just happen to come from the other end of it... backyard breeding, irresponsible ownership, 'designer breeding', carelessness, laziness and cruelty. I see too many dogs come into the shelters, unwanted. And most of them could have been prevented by spaying/neutering. It is heart wrenching on a daily basis.

Pure bred dogs come into the shelters all the time. We have an English Pointer with champion lines, and her pedigree papers. They are not immune to the 'I don't want this dog anymore' just because they are expensive and papered. Even your little Harley in the first few months of her life has already been wanted/rejected, but she was lucky in the end.

Also, studies have been done on the benefits of spaying, and females who are spayed before their first heat reduces their chance of getting mammary cancer and other cancers tremendously.

I'm not trying to change your mind, I just wanted you to see it from my side, and why I felt it necessary to bring it up in the first place. But you, my dear Neil, do not fit into any of the adjectives that I used in my description. ;) I have no doubt that Harley is in capable hands.

A few people have commented on my (current) decision not spay the puppy.

I am not a great fan of neutering either dogs or **** unless there is a real and positive reason to do so, like over aggressiveness in dogs or the inability to keep a **** apart from dogs when in season.

There is no evidence that neutering makes animals better behaved or easier to train, and there is evidence to show that it can have a detrimental affect on weight and muscle composition.

If I am honest I think that a lot of neutering is for the convenience of the owners and not always in the best interest of the dog.

Of course if the owners do not have the time, resources or knowledge to "manage" their dogs than neutering is 100% the right thing to do.

The other reason is that I may very well breed from her, Take a look at her 5 generation pedigree and count the number of Field Trial Champions in there (30) so it would be a shame not to at least see how she turns out.

Pedigree link here (external link)

And I guess if any of you clicked on the link you now know the dark secret of her real name :-)

Forgive the short answer, but all I can say is, I agree.

Neil, I agree with most that you have to say on neutering. However, I also strongly believe that unless there is a good need for the bloodlines to continue through a particular dog or ****, there is no good reason for them to be left intact (heck, I had myself 'disconnected') ;). Most breeds now have many great breeding stock world wide, and through proper choices of mates can ensure a healthy stock of that breed.

Absolutely it is a matter of convenience, because most people don't have the time, knowledge or willpower to properly maintain a **** in heat. The world these days is full on conveniences, many of which I am sure we all take advantage of. The only temperament change I see from dogs when not neutered, is when the **** is in heat and both sexes really only have one thing on their mind. :D I was one of those that did not take ALL the proper precautions with my Golden Retriever, and someone stopping by with their dog when I was not home ended up in a litter of mutts. They were great dogs, but the world is overfull of those.

BTW, I love her registered name, and would likely use it myself. It is close to my GR's (Mandy Golden Duchess). :)

Just so we all understand, I agree with Cat too. I also know exactly where she is coming from.

In my case it comes down to the level of husbandry that I want and am prepared to give. I understand that loads of people cant do that and I do understand that there are far too many unwanted puppies in the world.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion (but many people are not entitled to un-neutered animals)

Yes, I remember that day well. I was watching the baseball game when it happened, as likely millions of people were. It sure ended up being very tragic.
