Yes, I remember that day well. I was watching the baseball game when it happened, as likely millions of people were. It sure ended up being very tragic.

I was standing outside a Radio Shack store, and watched their entire inventory fall off the shelves onto the floor.

About half the water from our pool ended up in the house, and there was about $75K damage to the structure. It sure changed our world for quite a while.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I honestly had not remembered this, but today is the 20th anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. That was quite a day.

Was that the ballgame quake?

I don't remember the quake at all. :( But that sounds like it was horrific.

Wow, did insurance cover it for you?

Yes, the World Series was being played in San Francisco when it happened. The TV screens went blank, and it was 5-10 minutes before we realized what had happened, and even then the entire scope of it was not yet realized.

They covered some of the structural damage, but none of the personal property that was destroyed (virtually all our china and crystal......most of it very old) Basically, earthquake insurance is a ripoff. The deductible is 10% of the coverage, so if you have a $1,000,000 policy, your pay the first $100K. We had $500K coverage, so we spent $50K out of pocket. Ironically, if we'd only had $100K coverage, it would have only cost us $10K to rebuild.

Wow, that is a weird deductible, but I guess you want to ensure for near the full amount should the result be totally catastrophic.

Just been watching a bunch of Youtube videos of the quake. It's interesting to see the ones from the stadium where the folks knew it happened but the full scope of the damage was not yet known.

Cool! Tape it!

It was nice talking to you too! Your voice is as sweet as your personality and you don't have a heavy west coast accent. ;)

And, can't bribe the kids. I'm taking a day off to paint....kind of not good to have kids call in sick to help me. Though, I did have a girl that was wanting to help me this weekend but well, we can't paint this weekend so that kills that.

NEIL I completely understand why you want to keep Harley intact. We used to breed springers. Well, mom and stepdad did. If you know they have killer blood lines it's hard to take those good genes out of the pool.

G'mae folks. No sleeping in this morning. Corey had to work at 8 and had a fire call in the night. So, it's going to be a loooooong day with the boys at home. I think I'm going to brave menard's with them and go buy my cabinet hardware. I pretty much have it picked out so that saves some time. Oh, and the in-laws are coming over later. They've been on vacation for a while.

I have a senior photo shoot tomorrow outside. It's the ipod girl. She wanted to split her session to try and get some fall colors. I'm hoping the frost didn't destroy all the leaves.

And, tomorrow I"m also shooting outdoor shots of SILs kids and we're going to try and work my kids in there too.

¡Feliz cumpleaños Gata!

Sorry you have such a busy weekend. Try to keep things on the easy side, whatever you do.

Funny. I'm watching some of those, too, and I'm getting all emotional. It does bring it all back.

A few people have commented on my (current) decision not spay the puppy.

I am not a great fan of neutering either dogs or **** unless there is a real and positive reason to do so, like over aggressiveness in dogs or the inability to keep a **** apart from dogs when in season.

There is no evidence that neutering makes animals better behaved or easier to train, and there is evidence to show that it can have a detrimental affect on weight and muscle composition.

If I am honest I think that a lot of neutering is for the convenience of the owners and not always in the best interest of the dog.

Of course if the owners do not have the time, resources or knowledge to "manage" their dogs than neutering is 100% the right thing to do.

The other reason is that I may very well breed from her, Take a look at her 5 generation pedigree and count the number of Field Trial Champions in there (30) so it would be a shame not to at least see how she turns out.

Pedigree link here (external link)

And I guess if any of you clicked on the link you now know the dark secret of her real name

I didn't comment on whether you should or shouldn't. Mostly because I have no real experience in this area. But I do understand the not wanting to end the pedigree. Though Harley's has many more champions than Kona's does (and I thought he had a lot). I can see why you don't want to end it.

I see Cat's point too. From our perspective, it would have not been a wise idea to not spay Hale. We don't have the inclination or the expertise to breed our dogs. We considered keeping K as a stud but didn't have the real capabilities to handle his amorous tendencies.

From your perspective, I've no doubt if you chose to breed her, you'd be a responsible breeder.

The one thing I will say...there are a lot of strong opinions here. I have no doubts that they come from informed individuals. But I still believe everyone has to choose their own paths. If we did not support one another regardless of the fact that they chose differently than we would, we aren't very good friends.
