I have the subject off camera shoe cord which I used to use with my A2E and 540 EZ. Will this cord work on the 40D with the 580II?

I believe that the Canon off camera shoe cord 2 is an earlier model of the current one being offered with the only difference being some weather proof sealling that seems to go along with the 580EXII improvements.
