It seems that Canon just released the new release of the USB driver. This one contains a CRW to TIFF/BMP converter utility, that is launched when you double-click on the CRW file on Windows Explorer.
It includes all the features of the Twain Driver... at least, I haven't seen anything missing yet.

Not too slow: 2 seconds to launch, 11 seconds to convert and save as TIFF on my PentiumIII 866 Mhz.

It can also do batch (non-documented feature): select multiple files, hit "RETURN". The utility is started on the first picture. Do you set-up, and select the target directory, don't change the filename suggested (it will keep same filename, replaces the extension)... and the batch starts.

That's a cool utility. nadim

Need to add:

. the utility work on any file name
. the .THM files are not required
. The TIFF files generated include most of the EXIF information as part of the TIFF EP header. Use the software http://oneilsoftware.hypermart.net/Exif/Exif.html (external link) to read the info.

Have a good week-end,
nadim

Hi Koumou,

I haven't installed the driver... just the Raw to Tiff Converter, which I use now exlusively with Chris Breeze's downloader.

The Raw Converter is included in the distribution of the USB driver... I unzipped the usb361.exe, and ran the setup.exe that is inluded in the RawConverter folder. Worked like mint on my WinME.. can't say about Win2000, I haven't tried it.

Good luck

Hi Koumuno.

I installed the new 3.6 USB Driver on Win98se and it did search my drive and remove the old software. I also use it with Chris Breezes downloader software.

Hope that helps.

it looks like Canon removed latest 3.6 usb drivers from their site.

Can somebody e-mail it to vtyapkin@chess-problemist.com (external link)?

Thanks

Seeing as Canon pulled the 3.6.1 software from its site, can anyone put it up on a site so that we (who were out of town over the weekend) can get it?
Thanks for any help with this. I presume Canon will re-release it, but I feel so deprived...

Cheers,

I would not like to put it on site download (it's not actually freeware), but if your mailbox can handle something like 7MB I'll mail it to you.

I'm not sure why they pulled the drivers. So, whatever you do don't trash those CRW files.

Charlie,

Send me an e-mail at james@diveandsea.com (external link) and I will send to you.

I tried to copy to the forum mail and I could not get it to work, so please send me a message and I can attach it to the relpy.

It is 5.9kb so we will see if your mail box is big enough. ;)

Seems the Raw Converter is limited to 16 pics in Batch... either a bug, or a feature... may well be why Canon withdrew this release from the web site.
