Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

I wonder if it would be worth selling my Sigma 17-70 for this lens? Anyone ever done that? I've never become one with my Sigma although it seems to be a good copy. Hope that makes some sense. Or I could hold onto the Sigma and spend my money on the Canon 10-22. Decisions.

I sold my Sigma 17-70 and bought Canon 15-85. My main reason is because I don't like the Sigma distortion at 17mm. Also, even though Sigma has bigger aperture (f/2.8), I rarely use it since 2.8 is only at 17mm. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, I pushed the happy button for this lens at B & H today. Thanks for the photos in this thread everyone. It's going on my new 60D.

Hello, I'm new to photography and I've just gotten this lens as well as a 60D.

I've been browsing this thread and have noticed that there a lot of sharp images in this thread which I absolutely cannot seem to match. My images seem a little on the soft side. Obviously I'm only just starting out and it's just a hobby (expensive one). But I've been a little underwhelmed with the performance of my lens. Using either full auto or full manual, 5000 images later I'm still not sure if I'm not doing something right or maybe the lens needs to be calibrated.

So I got my hands on a 18-55mm lens and tried it out on the 60D, the only difference as far as I could see was a slightly richer colour on the 15-85mm. The sharpness was pretty much the same. Should this be the case?

Anyway, I'll post up some comparisons later on.

I've been lurking for a few weeks now and this is a great site, already picked up a few tips just by browsing around.
