Thanks Johk.

I believe my copy has the asymmetrical vignetting which I cannot correct by DPP. Only the top two corners been darken (lens is not center ?) After searching through DPP, I found similar problems have been reported:

I wonder if it worth an effort to exchange for another copy. Thanks

Vignetting is normal in the 4 corners at f/3.5 and 15mm. See the vignetting results from the-digital-picture.com (external link). But it should be quite easy to correct.

Hi,

I am about to order the Canon EF-S 15-85 lens for my 550d and maybe it has already been asked before (in that case sorry for asking again), but I did a search and couldn't find any good answer.
What kind of UV filter from B+W should I take, the slim one or the regular one? Thanks!

Update 9th feb 2011:
The question to my answer is given here:

Does this happen even without the lens hood? I have had some dark corners when I dont have the lens hood attached properly. I have this lens and it shows vignetting at 15mm but it can be easily fixed in DPP.

Hi,

I have the 15-85mm and it shows vignetting on the top two corners @F3.5. I tried to remove them using DPP but not successful. Is it common to see vignetting (darken corners) with the 15-85mm, or I have a bad copy.

Thanks a bunch.

I had to change my original copy..

Derek

I did not have a lens hood, and the vignetting happens with all focal ranges. I tried to correct with DPP but could not. After searching on DPR, it seems my copy has asymmetrical vignetting, and cannot be fixed by DPP. It looks like I will have to go through the hassle of exchanging for another copy and re-test again. Thanks for the reply...

How many of you have experienced the asymmetrical vignetting and is this very common? I'm also thinking of picking this up as my general purpose lens and also worried about the lens creep.

No lens creep here, none at all.

How long have you had the lens and photo count with the lens?

Pretty sure the actuations are irrelevant to creep.
I have had mine since August last year, it feels as good now as then, I have the Tamron 18-270, if you want creep buy one of them :)

lens creep is (bad)luck of the draw. some people report no signs after over a year of usage.
some people (like me) have had creep from day one.

i sent mine back to get a new one. hopefully the next one will be tighter.

Patiently waiting for the UPS man to deliver my lens. Sun is slowly drifting down. It will kill me to have to wait until tomorrow to get out with my new lens...

Shot last summer, Wiltshire, Uk, where all the corn circles happen.

Anyone know what this plane is, and why it should be wandering around the circles all day long?
