I have been using my trusty 70-200 IS L and a 17-85/2.8 for the last few years but would like to see if a 1.8/telephoto is out there that I'm not aware of. I just want to avoid ISO 3200 if at all possible...but knowing I'd rather have a noisey image than a dark one. Can someone share their experiences, particularly the wedding photogs out there...Thnx.

Not in a zoom, but you have the 135L at f/2 and the 200L IS f/2. (which comes at a steep price) Also have the 85L at f/1.2 and the 100mm f/2 that are in the same focal range as your 70-200. I use the 135L myself and I love it. Great for shots indoors that can really separate the B&G from any background.

Yes the 135 is the bargain and is one of Canons best. The 200 2L is pricey but is the sharpest Canon lens I've shot with and with IS 5 stops faster than the 135 2.

There is no 17-85/2.8 it doesnt exist. Which 70-200L do you have?

As far as 1.8/Telephotos there is only one... 200 f/1.8L

Thanks...I meant 17-55/2.8......My 70-200L is the 2.8 too....would I gain much in the ISO dept. if I went to either a 200/1.8 or a 135L/2.0, just weighing my options..I want the most for my $$.

I have a nifty-fifty 1.8 but never caught onto primes..and only used it a couple times.....especially using one at a wedding when I try to be out of the way and having the zoom capabilities with out moving is a plus. Just wondering how close I could get to the couple at the alter with the 85mm....

Well, you have the 17-85, so you know what Field-of-view you get @ 85mm. Go swing by a church and give it a try :)

The 85/1.8 is a GREAT lens. Every photographer should have one in his/her bag.

I have used BorrowLenses.com for the past two years to rent the 135L f/2 for volleyball. This year, I bought one and I'm loving it for low light shooting in the gyms. Just remember, that at f/2, the DOF is really shallow if your subject is fairly close.

NOTE: I have also used the 85 1.8 and the 100 f/2 with good results also.
Good luck.
Mike

Like I said, a really shallow DOF. :-)

I found on FF (for me) the 85L to be a more useful F/L than the 135L but either of those would be EXCELLENT choices.
