Someone asked me to photograph some bead jewelry that may lead to a paying gig for a winter project.

What I used for these images: 40D, 24-70 2.8 L, 580EXII, 430EXII, Cheapo light (not sure wattage), seamless background.

What do you like? What don't you like? What would you do different? I don't have a macro lens, but if I got this gig I would rent/buy one.

I like the last two, but #1 has some problems for me. I think the reflection with fading that is introduced at the bottom margin serves no useful purpose.

Well done, I also was drawn to the reflection in the first.
Good luck!

The graphic design is weak but the photography is excellent. Clean, to the point, looks great against the white.

Thanks for the comments. I am really hoping to get the gig for a winter project. She wants them to be 16 X 20 prints so I am little nervous with shooting it with my 40D, but we will see.

Id make the reflection go to the end of the frame, it fading away draws my attention away from the jewelry. Good job though, i like them. You could possible make them a little more colorful but I don't know it that'll suit it.

the first one, the exposure is dark on the jewelry. Otherwise good.

My limited experience with large prints (1 - done by Ritz Camera), says that a 16 x 20 print from a 10 MP image is going to look fine. Note that the dots/inch for a 16 x 20 from 10 MP camera is about 170 dots per inch. The printer itself will smooth (interpolate) that a bit, and I think you will be satisfied with it.
