This pronghorn presented a little bit of an unusual opportunity. Usually when shooting wildlife I am trying to position myself so that I get a nice, blurred out background of a uniform color (preferably a dark background, as well).
But in this instance, I was able to get the foreground blurred out, as well. This was due to the presence of some sage brush that was 2 or 3 feet tall, placed nicely between me and the pronghorn. It was far enough out in front of him that I was able to blur it out. I thought it gave a very different look to this image, as the pronghorn seems to just appear out of nowhere in the middle of the frame.
I was at f4. Unfortunately, I was also at ISO 400, which is my "normal" setting. A frame or two later I switched to ISO 100, but I wasn't pleased with the composition of those images (the pronghorn had moved a few steps).
) blurred out really nicely.
