The unreachable part, yes. But on the 7D you can map the button to switch from AI servo to one shot AF (or vice versa).
Yes, hence the useless of that button when you have the 100-400 and are handholding. No way that button can be pressed. If I am AI servo and want to switch to One shot quickly. What other options do I have ? Nothing else right!
I need to see if it works with the 70-200 as I'll be holding that close to the mount.
All nits aside, I love this camera. The AF tracking is so good, I feel the fella reads my mind and when it fails, I feel bad for it
but I understand that it tried it's best.
I still need to see if a busy but somewhat distant bg can distract the AF once initial acquisition is made. Initial acquisition should automatically (read somewhere about the 7D's algos) pick the closest subject so the background should not be acquired. I am curious to see if I can replicate the bad behaviour of that infamous thread listing the 7D's failures to track birds against busy backgrounds (which the D700 apparently excels in).

Man, I had no luck, then! By the way, what event where you at Honda Center for? The Ducks were not playing last night, so my best guess would be pre-season basketball? It's also possible that the arena rules are adjusted for the type of event taking place, so perhaps they enforce it for NHL hockey more, or maybe it's just that I really had no luck the time I tried, lol.
Haven't used an SLR in months and suddenly did not know what to expect with the 100-400. I MAFd in a hurry yesterday (without using the lens align) so could be off. I am hoping it is the IS(1) that is interacting with the panning. I usually just turn IS off (if I remember) . My static shots from yesterday were pretty sharp!

Very cool shots.
