That is spectacular IMO. What lens? I've never seen that species before, it's a pretty bird.

I have to admit that this is one of the sharpest pictures I've seen yet. My browser is always zoomed at 200% (computer on 46in tv) and damn it is STILL very sharp!

love the colors as well

def bw!

I had no intention of shooting birds when I went to my back door with the 85mm f/1.8 attached to my 7D today, I just meant to take a few shots of the snow to send to my family and friend. Sitting on the railing four feet away was this female cardinal. Shot through double paned glass, f/2.5, 1/30, ISO 200.

I can't compete with those wonderful bird shots people have posted over the past few days, but here's one from this afternoon. It was pretty sunny, which I need to get anything close to a sharp handheld shot with my Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro at 300mm, since it's not an image stabilized lens. I was able to get this one at 1/2500 sec.; this is a 100% crop from the original image.

Both with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 @ f8 and f10

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

That's pretty good for a 100% from the Sigma lens. Is that the red-ringed Sigma 70-300? I have one of those for the Nikon mount and it actually does very well.

I really ought to stop playing on the computer and go out back with the camera. With 14" of snow on the ground the birds are easy pickings. ;)

Just got the 7D last week and had a chance to take it out yesterday. My last SLR was my father's Nikkormat that I shot black and white with in highschool 15 years ago. That said, there is still a lot to learn. ;)

Here's a song sparrow I just caught on our back deck. Like the cardinal shot through double paned glass. Lens on this one is the 70-300 USM @ 225mm, f/7.1, 1/100, ISO 400.

That's the one. We've got a little over 10" of snow here, and the birds are all over the birdseed I spread this morning around my bird feeder. I've been trying to dial in a microadjustment on this lens. So far it's looking somewhere between -2 and 0, I think I'll compromise on -1.

I went back and fired off 66 more shots but seems we only have two species out today, the song sparrow and the black and white snowbirds. I have yet to get a good shot of a male cardinal even though they're all over the place here, I just never have the camera out when I see them.

I just realized how noisy the IS is on the 70-300 USM. It's a decent lens but it sure makes a lot of noise. ;)
