Magnus,

More great aerial work. Love the colors and sharpness you're getting out of the 7D. The images are absolutely stunning. I also have the 70- 200 f/4 L. It's the best lens for the money I've ever had.

Hope you can get a 100- 400 IS. I have to sell things in order to buy equipment during this economy. The 100- 400 is a much better lens than the way it's trashed on some forums. I'm sure with your abilities it will work nicely for you...

Rob: That blackwhite forst is a real looker! great shot :)

Wesjr: Thank you very much! :) the combination of the 70-200 with the 7D is something that i really like, both the lens and the body are workhorses and they seem to be able to pull off any challenge you throw at them without complaining once. Well spent money, although the piggybank is complaining now. :)
Yeah the 100-400 would be great to have, the extra range would give more creative freedom in many different types of situations. It's just the pricetag on it that's scary, at 1600+ euros i cannot afford it. :( however the lens seems to be pretty old by now, i have a suspicion a new one could be on the horizon (next year) with a new IS system and perhaps even better optical glass in it.

A couple of new shots from the airshow, i just hope i have not posted these earlier. If i have let me know and i will exchange them for other one's.

@Magnus

Every time I see your photos, I really feel like I'm "missing something" in my own photography. You're very good at capturing the moment and displaying it to us in a fantastic way. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.

I'm really loving these aircraft shots - very nice! I'd like to get the 100-400 too, but can't for the same reason as you. But I just saw that Canon has a new 70-300 L lens out; it could be a tough decision between the 70-300 and 100-400.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Drewster: :) thank you very much! that's kind of you to say. Maybe i should explain how i think when i search for subjects, find one and take a shot of it. It's just a few 'parameters' i always keep in mind and use to select my shots and grab them. They are..

- Timing, timing is everything! if you can't get the shot then wait or let it go. Don't fire unless you know you will get it. You will know when the timing is right, go by feeling and sense when it will be a good shot that you like the composition of, a shot that allows you to do some cropping to get that perfection you want.
- Lighting, this is your primary key. If the lighting sucks you can't do anything good with it. If it's poor then just skip the shot and find something else or wait until the lighting improves.
- Composition, can i do anything from any possible angle ? if i can then i shoot. And i calculate possible croppings of the shot at the same time as i shoot the subject. I know it sounds stupid but that's how i work. :)

Those are the two main things i keep in mind. Besides that i ofcourse track the position, distance, rotation of whatever i'm shooting. The shadows are also important, the ambient and any artificial lighting counts, facial expressions of humans and animals are important, the position of limbs when humans and animals move, my position in relation to whatever i'm shooting. what a subject would look like in blackwhite instead of color as color can sometimes be pretty boring especially if lighting is poor or noise will be high.
It doesn't hurt if you have a fast reactiontime, the faster you are the bigger are your chances of getting the shot you want.

Oh and one last thing.. what i wrote above is just how I personally set my mind and try to think when i photograph, it doesn't mean it's correct or the way to think for everyone. It's just what i prefer and it helps to keep my mind focused on getting it. Cropping is you friend, don't underestimate it. :)

Magnus,

These photos are amazing. Love the colors and details. What SS are you using if I can ask?

Hear you on a new 100- 400 next year. All their new L lenses are very expensive. I will be keeping mine. Can't afford to upgrade at the new prices no matter how great they may be. You may want to check on used lenses. Not sure how available they are in your country...

stsva: Thank you! :) but i see you are in USA, the 100-400 is a lot cheaper there than it is here in Sweden. I know some friends of mine who take the plane to the states, buy their gear, pay taxes, tollfees and all that, fly home again and they have still earnt money compared to buying their stuff here.
About the new 70-300, i'm sure it's a great lens but i feel the difference in reach is too small compared to the 70-200. I need more than that to make it worth the expense. Maybe the Bigma 50-500 could be something, i've seen some guys use it here on the forum with very nice results.

jackitec: That's a sweet shot of that butterfly, crisp and sharp! i see you use the 100-400 for it :) what do you think of that lens ?

Wesjr: Hehe thanks! i got plenty more from where that came from in my archives :) but what does SS mean ? yeah i'm constantly scanning for used lenses here but you have to be careful when buying them because you might end up with a 1000 euro brick instead of a lens. People can't be trusted :(
