Masons = Evil :mad:

2 points.
1. I've learned something today - and I'm being 100% honest and genuine - I always that it was a white-male thing.

2. Some of the kindest men I've ever known were/are masons, my grandfather and my great-uncle being 2 of them. I've also got a couple of distant cousins that are, too. My great uncle passed just before last Christmas and I got to experience Masons' service. It was quite interesting - not good, nor bad - just interesting.

Now, to not be too far off topic:

mhofu - What are you using for focus? They are all OOF.

Need to change my spectacles! I thought the bubble was OOF but was/am not disappointed. Still new, so I guess I still need to raise my standards.

Thanks - will look at them more critically.

Your EXIF for the soap bubble shot:
Make Canon
Model Canon EOS 7D
Date/time 9/11/2010 3:28:16 PM
Exposure time 1/80 s
F-number f/5.6
Exposure program Normal Program
ISO speed ratings ISO 3200
Shutter speed value 1/83 s
Aperture value f/5.7
Exposure bias value 0.00 eV
Metering mode Partial
Focal length 135 mm

Which means your shutter speed was waaay toooo slow for the Focal Length. Combination of two things that contributed to the OOF:
1) Bubble trajectory/gravity. It's in the air, it's moving, your shutter is too slow to "freeze it" in position.
2) Hand-shake induced blur. You should always try to shoot for 1/(FL + crop) shutter speeds. So shooting at 135mm, you should've aimed for shooting 1/(135 x 1.6) = 1/200s (roughly). I'm assuming your f/5.6 was limited to the lens at that FL so you either needed to crank up the iso to 6400/12800, OR just use a flash (and have your sync set to 1/250s).

I didn't look at the other images but I suspect they were taken at the same event, likely same lighting conditions and lens, hence, shutter speeds were too slow to get that crisp, sharp focus.
