need your help. i have the urge syndrome to buy this 100L macro.

since my 70-200 can pretty much do what my 135L can do, i wanna replace it with 100mm Macro F2.8L. What do you guys think?

My wedding shots done recently were all with my 70-200 and I'm happy with it.

the 100L macro can do many things, full body portrait/headshot/ closeup baby shot and macro shots. it has IS too.

what do you think?

Unless by "close up baby shot," you mean macro photos of baby's nostrils, then my opinion is your 70-200 will also do what you want the 100L to do and you're just trading the 135 (not being used) for a 100L (and it'll also be sitting at home).

Non-IS lens is just as sharp. It feels kinda of rickety and front heavy, the zoom ring has a bit of play. But IQ wise, the non-IS is stellar as well.

If you think you'd benefit from having IS, then pay for the IS premium. Otherwise, the non-IS will do just as well and leave with you with a few hundred bucks in your pocket.

I have the 70-200, but use the 100L IS macro more because it is not as heavy and easier to carry. When I go to the zoo, or shooting birds or animals, however, I take the 70-200, of course.

i remember that you had the 100mm f/2.8 Non IS macro before and you have sold it
the 100L is the same but with IS and looks better on the 5D
the 100 Non IS looks ugly but gives a great photos same as the 100L

Thanks for your input guys.

How about the idea of giving up my 135 for the 100L and use the 70-200 for some portrait gig?

Sandy

I've been thoroughly enjoying your flower photographs. Your last one is spectacular, if I may say so.

Are you using any sort of multipliers with your 100L? I have had some success filling the frame as you are doing but nothing as satisfying as the photographs you post.

Thanks for the inspiration.
