Pics look good, but I am not sure what the tan / brown OOF is on the bottom right of 2 and 3.
It looks to be in front of the subject rather than a thin DOF, but the bird looks sharp.

Yeah, that was a branch between me and the bird. I couldn't really reposition myself to get rid of it.

Ahh that makes sense, either way very nice work, a 100mm macro shot is not of such a quick subject.

^ Very nice macro shot everyone. Anyone else doing these hand-held?

About 98% of my macro shots are hand-held, and all of my hummingbird shots.

The majority of mine are handheld, the ice droplet above was on a tripod however. That was a tough enough shot to get with the extender on there, but the wind kept blowing the leaves around as well.

Good to know I am not the only one. 99% of my shots are handheld now, so much fun!
I use my tripod for landscapes almost exclusively now. :)

Shot this Robber Fly this past summer. If I remember right, I probably used a couple of Kenko extension tubes with the 100mm. I use them more since going to a full-frame camera. For anyone big into shooting bugs, I would highly recommend getting a set; they work really well with this lens.

Hey Moose,

Are you using the contact or the manual tubes?

I was planning on picking up a set with contacts but unsure of the reliability and looking for feedback.

with contacts: Kenko DG Auto set. 12+20+36
They're about $200 at Adorama or B&H. Not cheap, but I use them a lot, so I think they're worth it.
