I have befriended a Paper Wasp who has chosen a Sacred Bamboo bush for his nest location, in our back garden.:-)

Such a sharp lens.

Cheers

Dennis

Excellent. Are you focus stacking these?

Technically - no. But, for some of these types of shots, when browsing the uploaded images in LR I notice that the head is in focus in one frame (with the rear end OOF) and in an adjacent frame, the rear end is in focus (with the eye OOF). I open the 2 files in PS CC and attempt an "Edit-Align" and then "Edit- Auto Blend" and this might work say 50% of the time. I try to align the insect body parallel to the plane of the image sensor to maximise what is in focus from tip to toe.:-)

Otherwise, I set the top layer to "Difference" and then align the Bottom Layer by eye until I have the alignment that I require. If we are good to go, I add a Layer Mask to the Top Layer and use a Brush to reveal the more in focus elements of the Bottom Layer and then I Combine the 2 Layers.

With these quite mobile insects, I haven't been able to get any decent results using focus stacking, usually ending up with several super-imposed bodies, heads, eyes and antennae.

Cheers

Dennis

I've done similar with some photos, but by cloning sharp parts from one pic to OOF parts in a second pic.

Managed to catch my Paper Wasp earlier in the morning, perhaps a little sleepy, so I was able to use the joystick to quickly place the Spot AF point on the eye, wing socket and waist to grab 3 quick shots in succession, hoping they could be Aligned in PS CC.

Using the "Edit-Auto Align" and "Edit- Auto Blend" Functions produced an image with a greater combined depth of focus, although I had to manually blend in the area behind the eyes as somehow, a section from a softer frame was chosen by PS CC.

Cheers

Dennis

no photos to post yet but i just got this lens a week ago from a guy who barely used it. he was selling it because his wife was calling him out for all his unused gear...so i did him a favor by buying it from him LOL. with the limited testing that i did, it's really sharp, colors are great and focuses perfectly on my 6D2 (both VF and LV).

I suspect there are a lot of barely used macro lenses around. People buy them expecting the lens will take over and make award-winning macro shots for them, then lose interest when the results are poor and it starts to look like some hard work will be necessary.
