OK, so with the decision coming tomorrow about the location for the 2016 Olympics, let's chat a little about the impact on your personal and photographic life if Chicago is chosen as the host city.

Will you attend any events?
Shoot any as a spectator?
Photograph events as a professional?

How about some additional options...

Move
Turn my backyard (100' x 140') into a $20/hr parking lot during the day and a $100/night campground at night
Move

Oh, did I mention move?

King Richard can't even build a park without going 5x over budget.

If Chicago gets the Olympics the entire tri-state area will be footing the bill.

If there is a God in heaven Rio will get the 2016 ganes.

Not to mention the fact that Chicago will become an armed camp.

And Heaven forbid the POTUS comes (and he will, it's his hometown) they'll lock it down even harder.

I worked Atlanta in '96 and lemme tell you, if you aren't an athelete (and I had an All Access Network TV Credential) it's not fun.

And after the bomb went off in Centenial Park, man you couldn't hardly go to the bathroom without getting suspected, inspected, detected, rejected and all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things...

A decision is expected at 11:30am CST.

I'll try to get to some venues, to watch. Maybe I can photo some outdoor events like cycling, sailing, etc.
I wonder what prices to events will be?

Seems the Brits are in a similar soup.

Costs for the 2012 games in England were estimated at $5 Billion, two years yet to go and they have topped $20 Billion already.

And they don't even have Chicago's legendary corruption and unions.

I bet they spent half a billion already just in the presentation to the IOC the past 3 years.

Does this vote indicate that Chicago received the fewest number of votes?

All along I've read (CNN) that it was down to Chicago and Rio.

Yes.

The IOC votes on all four host cities, if there is a simple majority (50% + 1 vote) the winner is declared.

Otherwise, the host city with the fewest votes is removed from the voting and they do it again with the same winning criteria.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Interesting tidbit, no US bid has won since the Utah games, when the enormity of corruption that pervades the IOC was brought to light.

Cynical people might say its payback, and that America will never get another Olympic games...
