I'm wanting to sell one
Which do you think is best?
I have both here now and I tend to prefer the Sigma (non APO version).

Thanks.

I'll consider both suggestions.

I'm not sure if I really need IS in a lens.

Maybe so but in the past I've gotten some real nice shots with non IS telephoto lenses.

I noticed the EF 55-250 gets a 9 rating at Fred Miranda website. Usually only lenses like L lenses rate that high.

IS isn't going to make your shots any worse...it'll only help if you need it...

you can pick it up refurbished from adorama for $200

I tend to agree.

My current lens list is :

Tamron 18-200 XR Di (not sure if I'd want to part with it) pretty good lens, at least at the wide end

Sigma 28-70 F2.8 (a keeper)
Sigma 70-300 DG
EF 50mm 1.8 (a keeper)

I could sell my two 70-300 lenses and get the 55-250 IS for bird pics, etc.

I'd go for the Sigma APO DG macro; loved mine until it broke. I replaced it with the Canon 7-0300mm IS which I'm very pleased with. If you're not on a tight budget that might be worth a look.
