Looks like this guys 7D died on him less than a week in. :( He said he uploaded 3 custom profiles and things went downhill from there. If it's related to his dead camera or not, it's only speculation. But that's not good news. Let's hope this is nothing more than an isolated incident.

What are cutsom profiles? Is it reasonable to expect a camera to be taking on a bunch of them...?

And were regular custom profiles what he was actually uploading, as opposed to some sort of weird hack?

And I'm sure it won't be the last!! All camera makers go through this...Canon, Nikon, er are there other camera makers? I'm sure that the 7D have already had 100 dead cameras, that's just life in the digital age, too many parts that can go wrong. Film cameras didn't have to go through this, they were just a shutter in a box. Canon digital cameras have hundreds of parts that can go wrong. I hope he just took it back for a refund and a new camera.

Let's not forget that the brains of these new bodies have microprocessors that are very sensitive to static. I've seen plenty of perfectly working devices with microprocessors get zapped during shipping. In any event Canon has very good warranty support and it shouldn't be any issue to be made whole through their warranty service.

Figure that there were something like 30k or 60k cameras shipped, there are going to be DOA cameras. Now if we start seeing a flood of "my camera dies" posts, I'd start worrying.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
