I'm a but new here at POTN since I just switched from Sony. I decided the 7D was the right camera for me as it's a high end APS-C and has a nice movie mode. Anyways, I have some unboxing pictures and my initial thoughts of the new camera and making the transition here (external link). I'd also be happy to take requests if anyone has any.

Here's a brief quote.

Today, I received my Canon EOS 7D from Adorama. Props to them for shipping it so quickly and having it in my hands before the weekend! With all the buzz with this camera and the weeklong Jewish holiday, I honestly did not think I would receive it for another couple of weeks, which was just fine with me. But after playing with it for a couple hours, it's pretty neat and I'm glad I have it. The only thing is, I don't have a lens of my own yet to put on it. Luckily, my friend Mark (external link) was kind enough to let me borrow an extra lens he had (an EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6. I should have my 24-105mm F/4L IS lens later today. ;)

Some things I noticed in you blog post that are not necessarily correct...

you can use the camera's normal AF during live-view - see me comment on your blog post

also - the reason the flash has an 'electronic' release is so the camera can release it itself in full auto.

Well the Sony Alphas can pop up the flash really quickly and easily with just a simple latch (or button press).

As for LV, thanks. I'm glad it's possible, but it is still slower and sort of clumsy, although it does work. Without a second sensor for LV, it's just not physically possible. I guess flipping the mirror up to focus is the next best thing. ;)
