Not a big problem with trails I don't think, but I'd always set my aperture wide open and then only stop it down a couple. Close the aperture too much and you won't capture all the darker stars. Just my 2p. Canon EOS 450D, Sigma 18-200mm, Canon 50mm f/2.5 Macro, 2x TC, Revelation 12" f/5 Dobsonian, Mintron PD2285-EX webcam.
