Nice shot. A little less foreground would be my choice. It makes the mountains feel too distant. It would also get the horizon line off center.

It looks like you have dust on your sensor, as indicated by some indistinct blobs in the sky. These are easily cloned out.

I like the composition. I love water so I like the expanse of calm but moving water in the foreground. I'm glad you didn't use a long exposure to make the water soft. Makes me really want to stick my feet in :)

I like the end-of-the-day lighting (or beginning of the day). It would make a really nice print. I zoomed it to full screen (easy to do on the Mac) and it looks beautiful.

How do you zoom in to full screen?

If you're using a MightyMouse, hold the control key and scroll the ball forward. Scrolling it backward brings you back to normal. If you're using a MacBook or variant, again, hold the control key and use two fingers to scroll forward on the mouse pad. Backward, likewise, returns you to normal.

(For a bit of additional fun, hold the control, option, and command keys at the same time and press the number 8 key on the main keyboard. Press it again to return to normal. ;))

a little more saturation would make it "pop" a little more, but nicely composed.

I totally agree with joedlh the mountains should be the main focus of attention on the pic. if you would of focus on at least half of the water and more on the mountain the pics would of come out much better.-++overall for being your first pic not bad.

Personally, I love the composition, but I might wait for a different time of day so the foreground shadows are gone? Just my opinion.
