A little warm for my taste but great portrait nonetheless!

another shot from Aurielle's shoot

here i have her doing some crazy motions with her hair, head banging was requested by me and both Ryan that night,

so after the shoot i bet you she was saying to her mom.. about how sick she was with head banging - lol.. haha..

but the head banging was well worth it..

it achieved for us:

1. Motion
2. Interestingness
3. Edge

lighting was 2 lights in this hall way

1. Back lighting was AB1600 Gelled with Red filter with 86 PLM way back high up. (i had to clone out the stand)
2. Quadra with Deep Octa about 5 feet camera left

CameraCanon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure0.005 sec (1/200)

Hey Pham, when you use lights with gels, especially multiple gels, what WB do you use? I see that the EXIF just says manual. I'm going to try some gels soon (color and/or cto) and was just wondering your recommendation. Thanks! And great work, as always!

@ Pantherphotos,

most of the time i shoot WB set to Flash.. the lighting bolt icon.

then from RAW to Jpeg i use Canon DPP (the software that comes with the camera) to change or enhance brightness, WB, etc..

then into light room as a jpeg for more color correction..

i know many will say that is too many steps.. and you converted to Jpeg as well? then to light room?

for me, i have found my colors remain very good using Canon's OEM Software, actually the colors and balance is better..

i have lightroom 3 and have tried the RAW converter and it gets close but not better than Canon DPP's software, i am sure others will chime in too and dispute or agree..

it is my personal choice workflow and it has worked best for me..

as for gels.. are you talking about for your speed lights? or studio strobs?

for gels for speedlights i bought the Rosco gel sample pack.. 8-10 dollars
for gels with alienbees, i got them off ebay a full set of colors..

so i would say buy all the colors that way you can see what they do, and you will have dynamic choices as well so you are not limited..

Cool, thank you! That's what I have done in playing around with some gels. I am talking about speedlights. I have the Rosco gel sample pack, actually the Strobist pack. And I have a Lumiquest gel holder as well. It's a bit tight on my YN560's, but it does work.

I won't argue one way or the other. I will say, though, that it's unusual to hear of someone who prefers a manufacturer-provided software over dedicated software.
You know what would be helpful, too? Tell us what monitor you use, how you calibrated it, and what with.

I couldn't even get Canon DDP to install one my main computer. That did not leave a good taste in my mouth. Lightroom from that point forward for me.

humm.. i don't have much of a monitor.. and it isn't calibrated..

i have 2 HP W2007 in a dual array

also i compare the finished images to my Macbook Pro17inch and an iPad as well that i look at. plus about 4 other monitors at work..

The Ryan Supremacy

had a chance to work with Ryan O Hicks as a Model

my concept was to create a photo that looks like a movie still..

i have been watching TV shows and paying serious attention to the lighting..

shows that have great lighting..

CSI Miami
Star Trek movie - the one with young captain kirk

the actual show that i was watching was dexter - showtime that inspired me on this...

but i wanted to create something different with the Borne Identity theme...

i don't know if it is like the Borne Series, but oh well it was a try..

lighting was 4 speed lights on this one

2 in the rear bare at 1/8 power
1 camera left in a 86PML at 1/2 power with green gel
1 camera right with 40 inch Soft lighter with blue gel at 1/16th power
