Yeah that's really tricky, I'd try getting it higher and if it isn't noticably from above try a different modifier that you can raise above, for head-shots i've found a 24" softbox with a white reflector below works quite well and still is soft if it's close enough

I was hoping to get the octa higher, but unfortunately, the way my basement is set up, there's a large beam in the way. I may try to push the model closer to the background so I can get the octa between her and the beam so I can raise it up and try again. I think I have 8' ceilings in the basement (I know - too low) and the top of the octa box was probably 6'6" off the ground because of that beam. Would it make enough of a difference to get it up the extra foot and a half, or should I use a smaller modifier and get it higher and closer to her to get a better angle?

I wish. Neither of my monitors are calibrated - it's on my wishlist. I tried to calibrate with my Spyder2, but both of my screens are cheap TN panels and it didn't seem to help much so I haven't used the Spyder in a while. I'm hoping to get a decent IPS panel soon and a better calibrator.

Anyone have a suggestion for a monitor in the $300-$500 range and should I upgrade the Spyder2 to something better?

Thanks for the advice everyone - I know I have a long way to go, and I have to start somewhere. I'm looking forward to trying again and receiving more helpful input.

I ran these through the Totally Rad action "Cool as a Cucumber" to help cool down the skin a bit - does it help?

First time using my Einstein 640 outdoors. This was actually a candid shot. I feel I still have a long way to go, but I'm having lots of fun :D

Setup used:
Einstein 640, inside an Apollo 28", triggered by a Cyber Commander, Powered by the Vagabond Mini (to the right of her)
430 EX II, triggered by a Cactus V5 (to the rear)

Great shot, what was your setup?

Thank you! I'm still thinking about brightening up the cap area, the shadows across the logo bother me.

I wish I had strip boxes but I don't so I just used an octabox and a softbox behind the bottle but angled forward. I added a gridded speedlight pointed toward the cap to remove some of the shadowy area on the logo
