these are very nice. I like the dark background with bright red clothing. I LOVE the natural skin presentation (though admittedly, i may be in the minority on that one).

Looks like a few hot spots need to be tamed with umbrella/shoot through.. or softbox. I often don't have mine with me when casually stolling, and when take a pic w/o it, i immediately wished I did have it when i see the result.

Very nice work overall!

Thanks Mike.. I decided not to remove all of her pimple spots to keep it natural. Would you mind elaborating a bit about the hot spots & soft boxes? I did use the flashes in soft boxes...

Her skin is oiley, which is causing the highlights (hot spots). A simple biore pad or even a paper towel/napkin would have cleaned it up a lot beforehand. While I see the attraction of staying au naturale, I really think some PP is necessary on this image to keep it looking professional and not snapshotty.

It's a good exposure, imo - just needs a little massaging.

@ PLawarence.. really cool lighting.. where did you have the camera right light? didn't look like there is room?

---------------
I haven't posted for a while, just crazy busy with life, work and more work ! lol..

from a recent wedding..

Josh and Bailey probably had many a dates before they were married.. but my vision was to have a romantic moment in his amazing 1965 mustang.

lighting on this was 3 lights.

1. Key light was a 550 Speedlight with a shoot thru umbrella camera right about 6-8 feet away @ 1/2 power

2. Rear Left back lighting was AB1600 with Yellow Gel with 64 PLM about 10 feet back for the rear corner lighting

3. Rear Right back lighting with Red gel for the highlight held by the Bride's Brother Jesse @ 1/8 power (thanks Jesse !)

triggered by the Consistent firing Cactus V5's

I've got to say some things that come to mind when I look at the image - you've done a great job of making the couple the focus, and balancing the intensity of light - though I think the mood of the picture is contrasting in a weird way.

To my eyes, before I noticed the couple there, I expected the car with the red glow, lights on, and shot at this angle, to be involved in a chase, or a robbery getaway, or just be ripping around in some way. The red makes it look aggressive, rather than passionate - at least to me. I expected a guy with a growly grimace, or a ****-eating grin at the wheel :D

The red along with the blue in these particular shades makes it look like the police are involved, and if that were the intention, one of the couple could be looking away as though they were worried about being caught.

The headlights on the car being turned on indicates to me that the car is moving, or about to - not stopped.

Your mileage may vary - I'm not a professional by any stretch, I just wanted to mention what came to mind.

you can roll a gel cone and tape it onto the head. inside the arms, not touching the bulbs.
not saying that is how he did it, but saying it is a common solution to gelling modifiers.

.... Would you mind elaborating a bit about the hot spots ...

hey Shankar
as noted, oily skin seems to exacerbate harshness of light hitting skin. (im very oily myself, and so conscious of it when taking pics... little flash, or even natural lighting, some spots shine so bright as to attract attention from the rest of the photo. (my family calls me "rudolph" in jest hehe). It looked like areas on her face bounced light so that it appeared to not have been mitigated by any type of diffuser ...

I'm usually trying to get a flash pic to be as close to natural light as possible (usually not so successfully, admittedly though) so those hot spots are less obvious.

to me the pics are really good... just the hot spots are a little more obvious

Amazing image. Best I've ever seen of a welder.

You don't get that from TIG welding unfortunately.
