Isn't a greenhouse a giant softbox?? Looking at the vinyl/plastic cover, I'd imagine the place was soft-ish?

Yea, the light in there is very soft. It was really boring and even though. Like, too soft and non directional. Additionally, the light was coming from behind him at this time of day so the wall panels were completely blown out when proper exposure was on his face. Plus, I wouldnt have been able to post in this thread where all the cool people are. ;)

Oh and you cant get this color balance with natural light.

I wish I could mold light the way you have here. That's just perfect. Nice job.

I know it's just practice. I have the basics, just never took the time to try to set up a shot. I take natural light shots of my kids playing mostly. I'd love to try some actual portrature, but I can't get a 3 year old to sit still for that long...

Einstein through an octa with no diffuser but an inner reflector w/ full CTO gel camera right.

Hi Shane, what were you using as the "gelled inner reflector"

Heya Dave. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I used a full CTO gel sheet over the strobe. The inner deflector came with the octa. (Pro Studio Solutions) It is silver.

Ah yes, I have one of those in the square variety, so I know exactly what you are referring to.

Two speedlights at full power shooting through a white umbrella, lighting the background and providing ambient fill for the room. Reflector camera left on the wall to fill the shadow side of his face. Two stop Hoya ND filter to knock the ambient down.

Did you use the gel on the 7" reflector that came with the strobe?

No, the strobe is bare inside the octa. The gel is around the flash tube and the reflector sits on the rod for the octa.

Thanks!

That silly relector that keeps slipping? I put a rubber band to stop it. Do you have yours at any specific location along the rod?

Yes, as far in as it will go. :D I use a wooden clothes pin to hold it in place.

When this is the 1st post you read walking into a thread, it really makes you visualize. Not sure if I want to read the early reference.
