thanks lax....i used this tutorial on fstoppers.com
my setup was similar except i didnt have a black background, so i just controlled the spill so that the room was just black....

Oh nice! Yeah I've always understood the concept but I've never really experimented with it enough to get the proper execution. Smart the way you did that though, I don't have a black BG either so I'd have to try something like that.

I'd like to see a tutorial but with white since I'd like to know a method as to where you don't need to photoshop the BG horizontal line out.

Another 3 light setup. Main light is a gridded beauty dish above and high right in front. Rim lights are gridded strobe on right and behind and bare flash zoomed on the left and behind.
