Friday night was all about Tracy High vs West High, in their annual Cross-Town Classic.

I know they are not all action shots!
These shots are intended to resemble portraits of players for use in their yearbook and sports programs.

First shots are JV, Night shots are Varsity.

Used a 40D with a Sigma 70-200mm 2.8.

Nights shots are between 1600-3200 with a Noise Ninja filter.

Evening shots are "warm" on purpose. The parents love that look with the green and yellow uniforms.

C&C please, I've only been shooting football for about 2 months.

Wow, no one has any comments? Suggestions? I know it's football... again... but I haven't had any input yet.

I think #3 makes for a great portrait. His facial expression shows his intensity.

Thank you, I liked that one a lot as well. I love it when you can see the eyes.

Joe, I'll lay it on ya. #1 is decent action and 2 and 3 are nice portraits. The rest really wouldn't be keepers imo.l Exposure is way under in the last few and #4 would have better to have captured the jube after than him jogging into the endzone for what may not have even been a score since the official isn't signaling anything.

#1, I like a tighter crop because the ref distracts me. 2,3 are cool. 3 is legit! 4 is a great shot, but the kid distracts me. 7/8 are cools shots, but as you know, just too dark.

One thing about big games/trophy games where you expect that short of shot, have your flash and that tameron 17-50 ready with about 2 minutes to go.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I wish I had my 17-50 with me, but unfortunately I forgot it. Thanks for the advice.

Joe, I like them. More as a reminder of what took place more so then something I would see on a sports website or magazine. What context were you shooting them in?

Joe,

I like them, too. I'm beginning to ask myself, 'how many times can I get #5, 7 & 8 (on my home team that I shoot) ripping off a big gainer?' Happens every other play during a game shooting a 6-0 team.

Recently, I've been looking for other shots like you posted here. Coaching the kids; Band kids doing something silly; Crowd shots; Steam coming off a player's head; Player being worked on by trainer; etc.

Only so many times you can shoot the QB throwing the ball.

Good stuff, I'd say.
