I think its one of the very few places in the world where there is an actual national park (117km squared) just within or at the edge of a big city.

what do you guys think of these shots?

I was using my brothers 70-300mm IS lens.

1 and 2: Male ostrich and black rhino

All are really cool. I think the Rhino comp is the coolest, but the ostrich is nice because it's so vibrant.

My only criticism is that the contrast/vibrancy is a little dull in most... if you did a subtle curves adjustment, I list these at totally awesome!!

great composition and awesome depth of field.

I agree with Mikelangelo in that the photos are nice but a little more or different processing would make them nicer.

I made a couple of adjustments on this one, although I may not have got it right either it shows what a little more contrast looks like. I also lowered the color temperature on this one (white balance adjustment) to help get rid of the color cast it seems to have had.

I have to respectfully disagree with M50D that the pics require additional processing. What struck me about the photos was the natural look of the environment. Much of what is there is a shade of gray and the colors don't really 'pop.'

Nice images that captured the natural beauty of Africa.

thanks for the comments guys... i agree with all the comments... I thought it lacked some contrast and was not popping, but kenya is extremely dry now cos of the lack of rains this year, so I did not want to process too much to make it look artificial and plus I was shooting at ISO 400 and in raw, and it seems as i begin changing contrast, saturation etc... the visible noise really increases...and the noise reduction in CS3 sucks! anybody know of any free noise reduction programs??

otherwise i like your processing M50D..thanks!

btw what do you mean by VIBRANCY Mikelangelo? I dont see it in cs3?

I probably made my edit little too contrasty, at least looking at it today in a dark office asavani's original looks better, maybe I had to many lights on before.

I do like the photos though and was just offering my opinion, which shouldn't be taken too seriously. Everyone has their preferences which I respect, and I certainly do not want to ever cause any hard feeelings. I do understand about trying to keep the photo true to what the scene looked like, which I could not say since I wasn't there.

The ostrich is nice - the sharpness and details on a funky bird are alway cool.

The rhino - I like the comp and the colours. Perhaps a wee bit more sat.

The lions - While the composition is nice - I don't feel drawn into them as they are looking away.

Giraffe - whole shot is pretty dark, making it pretty busy and hard to have the subject stand out a bit more.

As a bonus - you are close to the park so can head out and shoot frequently (other than those annoying park usage fees) Can you stay in until sunset or enter near/before sunrise? It SHOULD help your pictures have more "life"

When I realized how close the park is to Nairobi, I almost kicked myself for not stopping in for a one day tour before heading down to TZ.

Keep it up!
