I am new to using lightroom. I used to use photoshop but no longer have.
My question is can you add text to an image in light room like you can in PS?

You can add text as a "watermark".

That's it, just a watermark?

i've only played around with lightroom a little, but if you're in the print module, can you select the box for an identity plate under the overlay section?

What are you trying to do?

If you want to add text to label specific points in a diagram or something like that then the answer is that you can't. You'll need something like PS (or Gimp) to do that.

If you want to put a copyright notice in the corner of your images then Mogrify will do that for you.

I would look at the Mogrify plugin for LR2

That allows you to add various text annotations to the image on export.

I was trying to add text to make a business card. So I guess the answer is not that kind of text. Thank you for the feedback.

Is this a one-off job or something you offer as a service? If the former, then Faststone can add text to the jpegs exported from Lightroom (and it's free). If you want a template to do it then I reckon Mogrify could do it with a bit of trial and error.
