camera insurance question.

i want to insure my camera equipment but my dad doesnt want me to put it under there home owners insurance, what are my options? i would really like to have full coverage from acdental drops, and theft(my house has been broken into before), also i would like to put my laptop with it also. also as my kit grows would i beable add new stuff to the policy?

Your dad is smart. The trouble with claims on homeowners policies is the insurance companies very often raise the premiums afterward.

My homeowner policy would cover my gear ($500 deductible) but I wouldn't claim a loss. I'm planning to get a standalone "personal articles policy" from another company.

It seems that many POTNers recommend State Farm, so that's probably where I'll go.

i did research and called the local state farm agent. she told me that it would be around 50$ each year. i also have to email her the a list of the stuff i own.

my list so far:
canon eos xti
canon eos 7d
canon 50 f1.8
sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5
scandisk extreme II 2 gb
scandisk extreme 8 gb
lenovo x200 tablet (7449-eku)
