I have a buddy who wants to do a shoot with his '71 Chevelle. It's painted satin/flat black. I don't have a problem shooting gloss paint, but I've never shot a satin paint job.

Since you can't really use the horizon as a bodyline reflection, how do you light this mofo? It's like it absorbs light.
Any ideas?

I haven't shot one of those. How much of a reflection can you get? Maybe plan on enhancing it in PS? A blend mode might be the answer.

Otherwise, maybe park it next to a white wall & pour the light into it? #2 is parked between two buildings: 2007 Chevy HHR

It's like it absorbs light.

Still, black is the best color to show reflections. If you can get low sun on the horizon, it might work out OK in contrast to the ambient light. I'd still try that first.

Here is a shot he took. It's not quite flat, but it's awfully satin. I have some ideas, but it would mainly be just fill light. Maybe I could try harder light directed in the right place to cast shadows on certain lines.

Like the sun on the horizon, which is still my first choice. Let's not make this stuff too hard? ;)
