I am just curious how big you can print with good image quality from a 40D. I haven't made any prints bigger than 8x10 with mine, and I would like to start printing bigger. On photoshop it says on most of my images that they are 10x16 at 240ppi.I know optimal image quality you need the ppi at 250-300 range. How big can you realistically print with out resampling. and then how much can you resample an image and still retain quality.

The larger the print the lesser the DPI needed on your print. You can actually print at 200dpi for very large prints, due to the viewing distance and the ability of the eye to resolve detail at that distance. I have printed several 20x30 poster prints with the 30D and 40D, for example.

yeah 10MP is plenty for prety much any application, the bigger the print, the farther away it will be, obviously any print over 30in is not going to look pretty when you get right up to it, but i get amazing prints of any size on my 12MP camera

Actually you'd be amazed how sharp the 50x60 of the above photo is closeup.

I've made 20x30 posters with mine. Hell, I've seen a billboard with a 5D pic, so whatever you're attempting, I'm sure you'll be alright.

I've seen 36"+ prints out of an 8MP XT that looked perfectly fine just as long as you weren't standing a foot away from it.

Genuine Fractals is quite good. Forget the comparisons you may have seen showing it no better than Unsharp Mask in PS. The results are in the prints. I have 11 x 17's shot wih a 5meg camera that you can put your nose up against and they look perfect.
One of them has quite a bit of detail in it.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
