Obviously from the amount of light in the background your SS on 3 is faster than 2...#1 could use the face lightened maybe if you can keep it still looking natural. EOS 7D Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (1.4 extender outdoors) are the workhorses. 50D for backup, EF 70-300MM USM f/4-5.6 IS, Freelance photographer for local newspapers and my website viewthroughmylens.net
