I've just bought a couple of Peli 1010 cases and they nicely fit 5 CF cards and 6 SD cards* with the awesome safety of a Peli case.

But Peli cases are waterproof and you can drop them then accidentally run over them with your car without hurting the cards.

I'm almost afraid to ask - how often does that happen?

Getting them wet and losing lots of money in the process has happened once (dropped in a stream while changing a card) which is why I bought the Peli cases.

I've not run over them yet but I did run over a lens once. I put it on the floor while packing the car and forgot it, so it's not impossible that I might do something stupid in the future. Better safe than sorry is my motto now.

I think compact flashcards are probably more durable than that case. They don't float though...

1) We've had repeated posts on here from people whose CF cards have gone through the wash unprotected and still worked.
2) Care to guess how many Gs the card and camera were subjected to in the explosion? Care to put the case through that?

HankScorpio, can you please run over that small Pelican case over with your car and let me know if it survives? Just to be safe, take out your cards.
I have heard that the bigger Pelican that stand up to that test, but can this small pelicans do that? I want to know, then I can buy one. Thanks.

Why so hostile?
Are you saying that a CF card with no protection can withstand more than if it were in a case designed for protection? If so then please send images of you abusing your cards in the same way as in the photos contained in the test certificate I posted.

If you can prove that Peli cases are not every bit as strong as they claim then please prove that too.

If you don't want one, don't buy one but why claim that CF cards don't need protecting because a few got lucky.

I don't want to get it needlessly scratched but see the test certificate I linked to above.

I have been wanted to try something stupid for a while anyway.. so when I go to B&H next week I will buy one, i think it's just only about $13 and try it with my smaller car (Toyota Camry 2007) and see what happens, and that is without my cards inside. I will keep you posted.

Does it comes with the foam inside, or I need to buy that extra? I know the bigger size I got came with the rubber liner inside not the foam. Thanks.
