Near the end of August I was looking at buy a 100-400L. I had just sold my 70-200F4 and only needed a few hundred more dollars to buy a new 100-400. I became side tracked and just came back to get ready to purchase the 100-400. Only to find out the price of a new one went up from $1400 to $1670. Did I miss something that is going on? What is the reason for the price jump?

I guess I will hold out for a month or so to try and find a used one.

People say it's the exchange rate, yet the yen just fell against the dollar, so who knows.

Or good ol' universal GREED. My lens portfolio is looking better than my retirement over the past year. BTW, I sold a mint 100-400 (too slow for me) for 1K just before summer. That doesn't include my loss in Ebay and Paypal fees. I should have kept it as an investment.

My opinion, the lens is not worth that. I'd prefer a 200 2.8 + 1.4 and 2.0x at $1100 or so (new). No IS but damn sharp.

That's my guess. Around now Canon comes out with their winter rebates and all lens prices jump a few weeks prior to the rebates

NewEgg has it for $1569, and had it for $1449 last week. That's the best price I could find (I looked all over the net).

I just bought this lens last week (I've had it for six days) for $1499, no tax and no shipping from Beach Camera.

So, yes, the price jumped almost 200 bucks. However, keep your eyes peeled. It'll come back down. Just give it time.

Part of the problem, in my stumble opinion, is that the Christmas season is underway. Oh, they don't have the decorations up yet, but right after Halloween you'll see it creeping in. They act as if it starts after Thanksgiving, but that's old school.

It's on, baby. It's on, so you you'll have to watch it like a hawk.

Keep in mind that some companies offer ten percent for this and that. See if that will work.

The best thing is to just wait it out. They won't continue to go up beyond the $1667 MSRP that Canon suggests. They can only go down.

Thank you. bw!

Ive noticed price bumps as well, in just about everything.

Was looking at the 200 2.8L. Its listed ~600 in the "main list" here from 07. Now its a good 800 on B&H.
Oh joy. I always thought prices went down over time.

The trend has been down. In the "good old days", it was 100+ yen = $1, with the best days being between 120 and 130. It's under 89 today.

I guess I am a little slow on posting too. The price had rose before October 1.

The 70-200 f4 IS is between $1200-$1300 now.You could find it most places for $1099 less than a week ago.

Just paid $1619.00 for my 100-400 at Amazon a few days ago. It's worth every penny though.

I guess I will need to look for a good used one. The price should resolve itself in time, or not. The rebates will come round again.
