would a higher F stop help

Try to freeze the image. You are using a zoom? 300mm? then 1/250 sec is the minimum I would shoot at. This zoom I think does best at F5,6 there fore ajust ISO along these lines.

I think you have a vibration problem. Use the mirror lock also. Do try yo beacket. If none comme in focus then increase speed ....

Sigmas have a reputation for being slightly soft on some images . Don't feel bad cause i have the same problem with my Sigma :( .
