This time I was shooting in a different arena and was able to get on the bench, both of which I think contributed to IMO a better shot.

This is 1 example, please feel free to comment........

I like it - suggest a crop that has a right vertical line through the 'P' in APR and a top horizontal line showing no fan heads.

Cheers.

critique mode: not tack sharp, little to dark, and i also suggest a tir crop.

normal mode: further nice capture, what settings where used?

f2.8
1/500 sec
ISO 800
Manual Mode
Approx 100mm shooting length on 70-200 f2.8 L non IS

I think the sharpest point is unfortunately the gloves but still working on it.

Thanks for the continued feedback guys.

If your getting close to ISO 800, 1/500 2.8 , count your lucky stars. Do you use any noise reduction software? Maybe 1600 with some pro reduction wouldnt be as bad as you think. I'm really not familiar with the 450D and how it performs at 1600.

The few times I shot hockey I got on the bench as well, its a great angle. Has anyone ever been nailed with the puck, I know I was pretty nervous.

You can defantly capture good action at ISO 1600 I shot the below picture a couple weeks back with ISO 1600, Using 1/640th on the shutter but did run it through some high end noise reduction software.
