True, and many employers are under the gun to simplify, which means, even the longest lasting employee must be considered. My friend here who has been working for the same company for many years, as their tech and all points person just got the ax. They didn't even give her a month. She had gotten injured a few years back, couldn't work for over a year and then returned, but not at 100%. I felt terrible. Now she is looking for another administrative job, but she's at least 60. I hope she finds something soon. Her insurance was covering everything for her accident, but now, she must find another job just to help pay for her meds.

Been looking since March. The time is nearly out. It is for certain that come 30 Nov at 1530 (you bet I will take my one last hour of "PT" time) I am no longer employed here.

I am looking at deploying. That way Natalie and Jacob can remain in our house and at home with family close, and I can then come back with some veteran's points (hopefully) and get into the GS system with ease. This has sucked for 8 months now - knowing that the end is near. It's just becoming reality, and hit me like a ton of bricks today. I hate to go on about this with you all, but it sucks and I really dont know what to do. Not many jobs pay $21 an hour around here.

Jeff,

Are you in the USAF Reserves? Deployment might be the ticket for you...a job while waiting for the economy to hopefully make an upswing. Of course the downside is time away from your family.

What happened at the Base...civilian downsizing?

I understand it's possible to collect up to 99 weeks of unemployment these days. How does that compare to what you'd get on active duty?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Hello people :)

I haven't forgotten you and I'm not being stuck-up, just too darn busy trying to keep up with everything.

Hope everyone is well and happy! Have a great Tuesday:)

Hi kathy!! I am right there with you...more to do and get done than I have time for. And less sleeping time too. Glad to see you are still hanging in there.

Long story short but thanks to this poor run country by idiots I may be unemployed as of 1 Dec.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. After our elections here today, I am sorry to say that we officially now have even MORE of those idiots running the show. we are very disgusted here in California. People vote with the attitiude of "What can I get more of for me?" Sadly, it is the hard working upper middle class that take the swift kick in the a$$.

Off to bed I go...been up all day after working the past 3 nights. I am going out of town tomorrow for a funeral so I won't be back on until the weekend...not taking my lap top.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Sigh...Governor "Moonbeam" is back :( I feel sorry for the good people of California.

The CA Legislature has never understood the "Law of Holes" which states: When you are in a hole...stop digging! ;)

Kathy, good to see you around. Mo, have a great sleep. Jim, elections were close here. I voted early. The line was only 2 deep when I went and no "I Voted" buttons. Didn't have it in their budget to get them. And no donuts. :(

Should be a good day, I'm going to take a nap around 8. :)

Good Morning, Suzie :)

In my Congressional District, our House seat is "undecided" this morning with less that 400 votes difference in the two candidates out of 220,000 cast! A good lesson here...never under estimate the power of a single vote.

I'm in the guard. I am looking at possibly deplying with another unit from another state if the option is given to me. Yeah I'd be away from them, but the stability would remain at home.

Congress voted to convert some 30,000 contractor positions to GS slots to "save" the government money. Each position that I know of is being offered at a lower wage with the conversion - so duhhh of course they can "save" money.

Unemployment for me would be roughly $400/week before taxes... wouldnt even pay my mortgage plus utilities each month. I can find SOMETHING that would pay more than unemployment. As active duty I'd make just a touch more than I did as a contractor. I'd net about $3100/month. That's without deploying - but finding a full time guard slot, or going active duty may be difficult. My supervisor and commander are in DC until Friday but I spoke with my sup yesterday and informed him of everything that knew now - he's known everything each step of the way.

He had good intentions, but the California legislature is overwhelmingly Democratic, so no Republican governor could effectiveliy deal with their penchant for spending the State into oblivion. Jerry Brown is entertaining, and close enough to the end of his political career that he might be willing to buck his own party and try to fix things.

The next 4 years will be very interesting out here. If things don't change dramatically and soon, we will be bankrupt. It has been said that California is ungovernable. I'm starting to believe it.

Better stop talking polititics before Suzy bans me.

Ok, now I understand. My company has lost three contracts this year to "Government in-sourcing." That is part of the Stimulus Package...the Government sector is the only job sector that has grown, and that at the expense of the Private sector! Fortunately we were able to find other positions within the company for the people on the contracts that we lost.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul. They're so good at it.

Good that you found jobs for the people, Jim.

Okay, enough politics. No one has complained yet, so I'm not worried. Seriously, elections are wonderful. It proves that our country can change the hands of power without bloodshed. Just wish the hands were smarter than most. :) I'm not judging, but most people like me, who volunteer a ton, don't really want to be in politics. We like to do the work, not get all the glory.
