How fun, Tiff! I went to the Kelby thing here in DC and Jim went to the one in Atlanta. Those things are so much fun!

I've never been to anything like that. But, I have a ride so I don't have to deal with Chicago traffic and it's sponsored by a forum I belong to so I will sort of know many of he folks. Plus it was cheap!

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with teenage drama queens. I swear I got a slew of text messages with at least 20 F-words in them from my live in cousin all because I told her that I would let her off grounding to spend the night at a pal's if she agreed to two extra days of grounding.

She's killing me.

Well, I dealt with 23 of them for 3 years, just got released from it. It's the respect thing and the emotional currency. And they are exerting their independence. If they don't deserve wings, they can't fly. My son gave me so much grief yesterday. I took his computer away until I felt he was respectful enough. He did what I asked this morning and quietly asked if he could play on the computer. I said no. He was going to throw another fit, in the "I won't do anything you want" type of way. I said, "Walk to school." He knew I meant it. He was much better. It has to get bad before it can get good. And it helps with there is a man around who supports you.

Well, she is fine now. Talking to me respectfully. She decided I wasn't too unreasonable after all.

Tiffany,

I do not tolerate the "F" word being used in my presence, especially if Elaine is with me, and I will call out anyone who tries.

Draw a line in the sand and enforce it. It is all about respect.

It is. I don't think it's unreasonable to discipline a teenager when they are out of line. Thank heavens my older sons only gave me grief once in a while. My younger ones are already testing the waters.

Well, it's tricky with her....she's kind of a damaged kid so I'm trying to be careful and we are still just learning. Rotten little turkey.

And I got some great news a few weeks ago, but was swore to secrecy. But I'm going to be a Grandma! Like my big sister, Mo! I can't wait!

Suzie, that is WONDERFUL news!!! And... May is a wonderful month ;)

I have been out of town for a funeral. One of my closest friend's (since we were age 4) mom died. I spent countless days, weeks, hours in their home and they in ours as we grew up. Sadly, we grew somewhat apart after we married and had families but still kept in touch once or twice a year. Now I am kicking myself for not making the effort to go visit her mom when she was alive and well. I spent Thursday going to the funeral and spending the day with the family afterwards. It was amazing how many memories I was able to share with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Today, I realized that yesterday was her last gift to me. A second chance to spend the day with a family I used to spend many days with.
if there is somebody who made an impact on your life that you have not connected with in a while, go do it. I won't forgive myself for not doing it myself.

I have 2 daughters who were both pretty good teens but they had a few months there when I told them they were on the verge of extinction. Draw your boundaries and stick to your guns (my kids were not allowed to swear until they were adults and on their own). Teenagers feel safe when they have limits and the rules are enforced.

I know this is one of those, "I was standing in the best place to get this shot" pictures, so I had to post it. What a great handoff. I love football. I took this Friday evening. The coach is going to love my 50+ images I processed for him.

No sh**?

You're pretty scary, Mo. I'll bet you didn't have any discipline problems at all, especially because you had a guy with a gun for backup.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I don't like it but I can't control them now. I do try to teach Aaron that cursing is an idiot's language :)
