Sounds like a busy week, but yes, vacation time, and then you're only a few hours from HI.

I slept about 2 hours last night with the terrible rains we had. I'm going back to bed after driving Jared to school this morning. I'm so tired. Terrible basketball game last night.

My new recliner has been infused with catnip! I sat down last night at 8PM to watch a show and woke up at midnight...I am loving this chair :)

Tonight I am editing our trip to the zoo photos! Joe and Jules are so cute ad had a wonderful time with Aunt Nicole and Uncle Jimmy :)

Sounds like a plan, Jim. I could not fall asleep, mind was going. My son got accepted at Thomas Jefferson and got his letter yesterday. Our lives will be much more complicated the next 4 years. I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I was feeling proud and stressed at the same time. But I've done it before with Dan, just need a few moments to soak it in. I love that my sons are smart, top 1% of 1%, and I was asked by the Math Superintendent to do a few things with the clubs in our county. People are constantly asking me for advice on raising smart kids. I tell them the same thing, expose them to everything they may enjoy and learn from and see what happens. Let them take the lead on what they are interested in and go from there. But it takes a lot of time and commitment and money. I give up a lot of personal time for the boys, and don't regret it much. Jim, you do the same for your kids, Mo, for yours. It's just how it's done.

Have a great day anyway!

Suzie, that is awesome! Congratulations to Jared! Jimmy was accepted to TJ as well. He opted not to go as he figured he had a better shot of being the Valedictorian at West Springfield HS. And he was the Valedictorian for his class :-) That and his SAT scores got him a full ride scholarship at George Washington University!

The secret to raising smart kids is to raise them in a "smart" environment...that is what you and Ken do for your kids! Elaine and I have always pushed our kids to do better...and from early on we started telling them about going to college. It wasn't an option in our household and I am proud to say that all three of my kids have college degrees :-)

No wonder your son is so successful! He's got great parents with a lot of smarts and experience. I knew you were a good example for me, Jim. And I adore your sweet Elaine.

I asked my sons last night at dinner as we celebrated what they thought about the educational system here in VA. They said it's hard to find friends who have the same drive and support as they have. I felt a little sad. They know I've been asked to do more for the schools here, mainly to motivate parents. As I have said, that is the key, parents participation in their children's education.

For science & technology it is the best in the country. 3300 kids paid $90 to take a math and reading (verbal) test and have to complete a bunch of recommendation forms. The school takes 480 students from northern VA. Kids travel for 2 hours each way in some counties to get to school. The seniors all have to do an internship like a masters thesis. Very demanding and yet, well worth it. It's got an amazing honor code and the students seem to all want to be there.

Thanks, Jim & Mo. I am hoping the next few months, with all the meetings we have to attend so we can get the whole scoop are informative. I have a meeting on Saturday morning, one next Wed evening and a couple in May before orientation even begins.

I am published again. Here are a few pictures I took for our little school competition:

http://pwcs.edu/ (external link)

It's the news for the 24 Competition. I took around 200 pictures, and processed about 50. The math superintendent asked me to make 5x7's of all the winners. It was a fun shoot and I support the math programs completely.

Mo. you are so right on education! A college education is key to a bright future! Having gotten our kids through college, we now encourage and help our grandkids to do the same. Our oldest granddaughter, Meghan, graduates in late May with her BS in Nursing :-)

Congrats, Jim! That's great! My parents never graduated from high school, I don't think, but were quite educated. My siblings and I love being college graduates because it opened a lot of doors for us. I am glad it is done with, my BS and have a few grad courses done. I just wish I could take classes and not have to take any tests. :) But someday, when the boys are gone, I'm going to have fun and teach at a school somewhere to encourage excellence, none of this everyone wins stuff they are selling to kids. Although every child is important, there is very little to inspire excellence.
