What is the optimal solution for mounting a 5D Mark II with battery grip on a monopod or tripod.

I already have a Bogen 3229 monopod head, and Bogen/Manfrotto 3265 and 322RC2 tripod heads. None of these work since with the battery grip attached there's not enough clearance for the quick release plate when its attached to the tripod collars. I would really prefer for the weight of the camera.lens to be on the tripod collar rather than the camera/lens mount.

I'm pretty sure this question was asked before but I searched through the forum and couldn't find an answer.

Since it appears the QR plate on the 322RC2 "snaps" into position, what you do is mount the lens first and then attach the body to lens

or rotate the tripod collar to the top of the lens so its on the top by the hotshoe then "snap" the QR into place and then rotate it the lens/camera normal shooting position.

Thank you...mounting the lens first is a simple solution and it works...the only problem is that the body when mounted blocks the two release catches so you can't quickly remove camera and lens. You'd have to remove the camera, then the lens the reattach.

Rotate the camera so it's upside down for mounting/unmounting when you're using a lens with a collar.

Could also out the QR plate on the tripod collar so that the throw lever is sticking out to the side instead of facing back towards teh camera.
